Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship
The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Chicago is a three-year ACGME accredited program. Upon graduation, our fellows are poised to assume the role in the academic, clinical, or basic research field depending on their interests. Our program provides rigorous exposure to an extremely diverse and medically complex patient population in addition to research opportunities within the section and the University of Chicago at large.
Our program enthusiastically welcomes applications from Medicine/Pediatrics residents who wish to pursue a combined fellowship experience. Please contact Madan Kumar, DO, Fellowship Program Director, at mkumar@bsd.uchicago.edu for inquiries.

Education
Our Program
Our program provides exposure to a diverse and medically complex inpatient clinical consultation service at Comer Children's Hospital in addition to research opportunities within and outside of the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Potential scholarly pursuits include Infection Prevention, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Quality Improvement, Pediatric/Adolescent HIV, and research involving immunocompromised hosts/pediatric transplant infectious diseases. Fellows gain exposure to ID practice in a variety of outpatient settings to include general pediatric ID and travel medicine at Comer Children’s Hospital, and a federally qualified health center that serves as the site of Care2Prevent, the comprehensive Pediatric/Adolescent HIV Program which also focuses on HIV/STI prevention and sexual wellness. In Year 1, fellows spend 6 months on inpatient clinical consultation service, 1 month in Microbiology, and 1 month on Infection Control/Antimicrobial Stewardship. Years 2 and 3 are dedicated to scholarly activity/research and the submission of a work product that meets the ABP requirements for successful fellowship completion. Three months of clinical service are required in each of these years. The fellowship experience culminates in approval to sit for the ABP Pediatric Infectious Diseases Certifying Examination at program completion.
