Applicants to the five-year Child Neurology Categorical Residency Program (NRMP ID#1160185C0) must apply through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and submit materials via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This program offers two years of general pediatrics, which meet the requirements outlined by the American Board of Pediatrics for the Pediatrics-Child Neurology Pathway, followed by three years of child neurology training.
The University of Chicago offers combined Pediatrics and Child Neurology interview days, each conducted over a single day, with six interview dates available throughout the season between October and December. Each year, we match two residents into our categorical program.
2025 - 2026 Application Season
- We will begin reviewing applications to the Child Neurology Residency Program on September 24, 2025, at 8:00 AM CST. All ERAS applications must be complete by December 1, 2024. Incomplete applications at that time may not be considered for review.
- Interview invitations will be sent out on the Universal Offer date:
- ERAS Application Form
- CV (within ERAS)
- Dean's Letter (MSPE)
- Personal Statement
- Medical School Transcript
- We require a minimum of three letters of recommendation, with a maximum of four. A Chair’s letter is not required, but applicants are encouraged to include one if available. If submitted, a Chair’s letter may count as one of the three required letters.
- USMLE/COMLEX Scores - I and II (when available)
- No minimum score requirement
- Passing USMLE/COMLEX scores are not required prior to invitation to interview but are needed prior to rank list submission
Please note that all application requirements listed above also apply to international applicants. In addition, ECFMG certification is required prior to the Match. While prior U.S. clinical experience is not required, it is preferred. We do not have a cut-off year for graduation; however, if there has been a significant gap in training or practice, we ask that you address it in your personal statement.
All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis by the program start date. If visa sponsorship is required, J-1 visas are preferred.
