The University offers two Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance plans, two Health Maintenance Organization programs (including the on-site University of Chicago Health Plan), five group life insurance options, personal accident insurance for either single or family coverage, and long-term disability insurance. A dental plan is also available.
Professional liability insurance is provided by the University for all on-site professional activities.
The University of Chicago owns and operates two apartment buildings for residents near the Medical Center. Both buildings have parking facilities for tenants. In addition, there are many University and privately-owned apartment buildings in the Hyde Park community. The University housing office assts residents in finding living accommodations in Hyde Park. Also, if you are interesting in purchasing a house, condominium, or co-op, a mortgage loan officer is available on campus and can be reached at (773) 702-3421.
Lab coats and scrub suits are provided and laundered by the hospital.
The current fee is $35 per month for parking garage privileges.
Residents and fellows are entitled to 50 percent tuition remission for their children (nursery school through high school at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and undergraduate at the University of Chicago), and graduate school for spouses.
Recreational facilities are located throughout campus and included: multi-purpose gymnasiums; weight rooms; indoor and outdoor running tracks; racquetball, handball, tennis, squash and volleyball courts, and dance rooms. In addition, the hospital has sports equipment for loan.
Residents and fellows are given four weeks of vacation. Stipends Stipends are paid monthly, on the last working day of the month. Your first check will be issued on July 31st. You may arrange to have subsequent checks directly deposited to your bank. Following are the 2007-2008 stipends:
