Application

Applicants to the PL-1 year are accepted through the National Resident Matching Program. Our program only accepts applications through ERAS. Residents are hired for three years, assuming satisfactory performance. In recent years, about half of those finishing the program have gone into general pediatrics and half into a subspecialty area. Applications for advanced subspecialty fellowship training are received by the respective subspecialty services. Application Requirements

• Due date for receiving applications to the Pediatric Residency Program is Thursday, November 1, 2007. All applications must be complete by Friday, December 7, 2007. Should your entire file not be complete by December 7, 2007, then it will no longer be considered.
• At least three letters of recommendation and no more than four letters of recommendation are required. The University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital does not require a chairman's letter. If you would like to submit one, please make this your fourth letter of recommendation.
• USMLE STEP I AND STEP II EXAMS MUST BE PASSED ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT. Due to recent alterations in the USMLE step II CS process, we no longer require its completion at time of application. However, we still require that step II CS is passed on the first attempt prior to admission to our program.
• For international graduates: if you are coming under an H1B visa, you must have passed the USMLE steps I and II, and hold a valid ECFMG certificate. You must pass the ECFMG on the first attempt. Clinical experience is not required. All applications are reviewed individually.

Combined Pediatrics and Internal Medicine Training Program (Med/Peds)

The Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine sponsor a combined training program which emphasizes training in both disciplines. The program takes four years to complete and provides board eligibility in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. It is attractive to students who desire a program geared to subspecialties with a wide age overlap such as infectious diseases, genetics, gastroenterology, pulmonary medicine, endocrinology, rheumatology, and nephrology. The program also provides a broad-based experience for those interested in practicing primary care medicine and pediatrics. The combined, dual-board program has a special curriculum, its own program director, and integration with subspecialty training.
