Clinical Facilities :

The Comer Children's Hospital, University of Chicago is a new state-of-the-art, free-standing children's hospital. This Hospital is made possible by a generous donation from Gary Comer and family, founder of The Land's End. The hospital has a "family-centered design with in room accommodation for parents, single patient rooms, internet access, and activity centers". In addition, on each floor there are conference rooms for staff to review and discuss patient issues in a private manner, as well as provide educational rounds. Outside each patient’s room there are computer stations to retrieve electronic medical information, as well as mobile computer stations.

Comer Two is a new addition to the Children’s Hospital with an expansive, state-of-the-art emergency department.   Additional floors above are being developed as the new location for the pediatric outpatient clinics and will be opened in the near future.

The Comer Children’s Hospital is connected by a system of tunnels and bridges to the DCAM outpatient clinics with 315 examining rooms, laboratories, the adult inpatient hospital, and outpatient surgical facilities.

Neurophysiology, specifically EEG recordings, on inpatients can be provided by portable EEG monitoring in the patient's room. In addition, there are 4 dedicated video EEG monitoring rooms on the 5th floor of the Comer Children's Hospital, as well as two dedicated video EEG monitoring rooms in the pediatric ICU. Outpatient EEG's are performed in the special procedure area in the DCAM outpatient building. This unit has the ability to provide testing under sedation, as might be required for procedures such as a lumbar puncture.

The Child Neurology Section staff offices are located in the old Wyler Children's Hospital, a block away from the Comer Children's Hospital. These offices house the Section of Pediatric Neurology, secretarial, and support services including the Program Director and Coordinator of the Child Neurology Residency Training Program.  The child neurology residents have a dedicated work area with telephone, computer, internet access, electronic medical record access, fax machine, and secretarial support.
