Objective: To advance research expertise of pediatricians trained at the University of Chicago. Trainees have the unique opportunity to dedicate themselves to scientific investigation without the distraction of other professional and financial responsibilities.

Eligibility: All trainees or recent graduates from a University of Chicago Pediatric Residency or Fellowship program may apply. Applicants should have identified a significant faculty-mentored project with well-defined goals. The eligible candidate and PI must have sought or be in the process of applying for external funding.

Scope of Funding: One full year of salary with benefits. Trainees are limited to no more then 20 percent clinical time.

Application Requirements:

The application materials should reflect the objectives of the research grants: to prepare recipients for a career in research and to transition research efforts to external funding.

• Letter of support from applicant’s senior faculty sponsor
• Personal statement of career and research interests
• Description of work proposed, (specific project/overall goals, max. 3 pages)
• Candidate’s current CV
• Documentation of external funding applications pending or denied (please append copies of applications)
• Statement from mentor that funding is not available from other sources
