Announcements:

The ED will no longer being calling us for team assignments for bed slips. They will put down the color of the day (determined by what team the admitting senior is on) and the appropriate attending for general patients. For subspecialty patients, they should just put down the service and the respective attending.

Please remember to call down at 7am every day for hold-over admissions from 5-7am.

Upcoming events:

October 16, 2004, Saturday, 2-4pm: Annual Pediatric Memorial Service in the DCAM, 4th Floor Atrium. The service is held each year to honor children who have touched our lives. The service will include music, readings, a time for children, words of support, and children's names. A reception will be held immediately following the service.

October 23, 2004

Comer Kid's Classic 5K run/walk and kids' dash at 10am. Begins at 58th and University in the Quad. Pre-register on line by October 19th at www.chicagoevents.com

October 24, 2004

City-wide Chicago Pediatric Residents' Lunch at Cafe Iberico at 1pm.

Please accept NICU transfers graciously. When the census is high, they need to send babies to the RN (if there is no IV needed) and to the floor to allow for maternal transports and other critically ill neonates to be admitted.

Please ensure that you are writing down all home medications on your orders with the doses/frequency so that pharmacy and the RNs can have these medications appear on the MAR to check doses and administration. It is okay to write "okay to take home medications" as long as you specify the dose and frequency.

For discharges, please make sure that the orders are being written as early in the day as possible (even before morning report if cleared with your attending) and that prescriptions are also in the chart when you write the discharge order in order to facilitate the process.
