Research Interests
I am interested in the integration of evolutionary biology and medicine. Specifically, I am interested in developing an evolutionary understanding of the persistence, manifestations, and natural history of disease. Evolutionary insights are especially valuable in clarifying the processes of host-parasite and gene-culture coevolution, and of aging. I would like to broaden the application of evolutionary biology to health by providing evolutionary explanations for the socioeconomic gradient in health and for the placebo effect. Finally, and more broadly, I am interested in integrating evolutionary and mechanistic approaches to our understanding of living organisms.
