Research Interests
Dr. Deplewski is currently pursuing three lines of research. Her primary focus is sebocyte development and nuclear hormone signaling, especially in peroxisome proliferators-activated receptors (PPARs) and their importance in stimulating lipogenesis. She is continuing the work with sebocyte development related to acne and involving nuclear hormonal signaling. She is developing a transgenic model. For this research, Dr. Deplewski has recently received a Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) entitled “The Role of PPAR Gamma Amino-Terminus in the Adipocyte.” She plans to do some mutation analysis of this locus and to study the effect in transgenic mice related to the phosphorylation of this amino terminal domain in this organ system. She is interested in looking at insulin signaling through mutations of the phosphorylation site of this PPAR isoform, which is essential for fat cell development.
