Dr. Glick is a nationally recognized medical expert in the area of child maltreatment and advocacy. As associate director of the pediatric emergency department she developed and established the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital Child Protective Services Program. Annually over 500 children admitted to the hospital are evaluated by the CPS team. Dr. Glick was instrumental in the development of the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Education and Evaluation Consortium developed in 2000 a nationally recognized landmark program based in Chicago that ensures that all children reported to the Illinois child welfare system for serious injuries are evaluated by a child abuse medical expert. Dr. Glick’s clinical vision is to work with her colleagues to develop a network of hospitals that are designated as Centers of Excellence to provide the interdisciplinary expertise to ensure quality care and treatment of children with suspected abuse and neglect. With the recent recognition by the American Board of Medical Specialists of Child Abuse Pediatrics as medical subspecialty that will have a board examination, Dr. Glick’s ongoing efforts will be to develop the academic identity of this newly emerging subspecialty.
Academically, Dr. Glick has established a mandatory residency rotation in child advocacy, and developed curriculae in child maltreatment for the Pritzker Medical School which has been taught as a spring course by Dr. Glick for the last 6 years. She also has been instrumental in developing curriculae for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigators, the first comprehensive medically based curriculum on abuse and neglect.
Dr Glick is very active in working towards improving the response and care or abuse and neglected children in many arenas. Her work has been recognized by various agencies in being an expert in program development including the state of Illinois, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related institutions She is a charter member of the Ray Helfer Society, a society of medical internationally recognized child abuse experts, chair of the committee of Child Abuse and Neglect for the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, member of the Cook County Death Review, the only pediatrician on the Illinois State Committee on Abuse and Neglect, and medical expert for the MPEEC Illinois program.
